Clean That Closet!

We all have them, at least one of them and that’s a messy closet. Maybe it’s your own or one of your children’s, but either way it’s an eyesore and can be a source of irritation. You have clothes hanging half off the hanger, mismatched shoes, junk on the floor and so much stuff bulging out that the doors don’t even shut! You can be proud knowing that this didn’t just happen overnight, it took years to accomplish.

Have faith! There are some things you can do to start the process to clean and organize your closet. The very first thing you should do is don’t become overwhelmed. Take it one step at a time and chunk out the process so it’s not too much for you to handle. Start with cleaning out your closet, pretty simple right? Then why does it seem so overwhelming when you think about it? Set up three piles or boxes so you can organize your junk (i.e. stuff). One pile is for the stuff you never use or wear, you know those out of style pants that are 10 sizes too small? Yup that pile is your donation pile. Next, have a box for those big sweaters that you won’t be using until the fall. Last, one will be for those things that you actually use. Be honest with yourself, you are trying to gain more space and organize your closet after all!

Once you have completed the process of separating your stuff you can move forward with organizing your closet. Keep in mind that once your closets organized you will have room to buy more stuff! Try and keep your closet simple and organized. You will want to get some good solid plastic hangers; these are inexpensive and work great for both shirts and pants. Match up your clothing, such as type and colors. So you will want your dresses together, white shirts with white shirts and so on. This will allow you to quickly match and grab clothing. Next, get some small bins so you can store shoes, purses, etc. in for easy access and organization.

The overall objective is to create an organized, clean closet. Just remember to keep the process simple so you can get through it and have an organized and finished product. If you want to take it a step further look into closet organizers that will provide you with even greater space and organization.
