Foam Roof Insulation Saves You Money
In the old days, houses were built a little bit differently. The ideas surrounding how a home should be insulated varied but there were a great deal of people on board with the idea that the house should be allowed to breathe through the roof out through the attic. The idea was simple. Moisture builds up inside the house and needed an escape hatch lest it cause problems with deteriorating the internal components as well as the foundation of the home. Some believed that if the house wasn’t able to consistently breathe it could cause black mold.
The reality however is that this is an out dated concept, and many believe that the very theories surrounding this concept are no longer sound or even valid. With energy costs rising and a dire necessity to keep the bills to a minimum, people started to look a little deeper into this idea and discovered that the house breathes just fine by opening windows, doors, and even the garage throughout the day. Foam roof insulation is quickly becoming the choice of home owners looking to put a stop to the wasted energy escaping through the roof and out of the attic. There are several choices of insulation, and all forms are better than nothing, however some do work substantially better than others.
Foam roof insulation is incredibly efficient in blocking moisture from coming into the home from the outside, and it maintains a barrier blocking heat or cold air from escaping. This keeps the home much cooler in the summer and much warmer in the winter. Unlike standard sheet insulation, foam insulation actually expands plugging cracks, holes, and even adheres to both the foundation and other foam creating an impenetrable barrier that allows the home owner to maintain a constant temperature without keeping the heat or air conditioner (or central heat and air) on all the time.
Initially the expanding foam spray does cost a bit more than it’s cousin the fiberglass insulation, but it also tends to last longer, insulates better, and tends to stay in place more effectively. Foam is an incredible way to go for many reasons, including its ability to raise property value enough alone to substantiate the cost. Over a short period of time the savings in energy bills will also pay for this wise investment. Foam roof insulation can keep the entire attic from heating up so much in the summer months which will also protect your stored boxes of seasonal (or anything else you store up there) items. There are so many benefits to using this type of insulation, the only question is, what’s in your attic?
