One of my most favorite tiles has to be granite. Not only do they display good properties, but when correctly done, I find them to give a beautiful finish to a room.

A tile which can be beautiful when applied correctly, but is extremely impractical to lay on the floor and maintain, glass tile. Because they are solely comprised of glass, they maintain the same properties of glass. They scratch very easily and are not very durable, but they are very easy to wipe clean and are naturally waterproof.

There are many variations of porcelain floor tiles to choose from, and they can come in a wide range of sizes compared to ceramic tiles. Because of their superior strength, they can go up to at least 18 inches in size and beyond even 24 inches, unlike ceramic tiles, which would just snap at that size, basically because they could not support their own weight. While these tiles are great to look at, you really need to know what you are doing if you want to go to those larger sizes of tile.

Some other tools you may find of great use which are not entirely necessary when laying floor tiles, you may already have around the home, or in some instances you will possibly have to go out and buy. When removing wooden baseboards prior to floor tiling as part of the room preparation process, the use of a claw hammer and some type of pry bar will be required. A large plain flat head screwdriver will even do the job to pry the baseboards away from the wall, but you will most certainly need a hammer to knock it between both fixtures.
