As you may know from some of my recent posts, I recently got a new granite kitchen countertop done in my home. The installation of the countertop was unbelievably simple. While this was simple for me, my friend suffered: he did not go with a slab, but instead went with tiles for his countertop. He didn’t want to listen to me: if he had listened to me, his granite countertop installation would have been much quicker and much easier to do. Slab installation takes only a day: the granite tile takes much longer. One slab covers the entire area making it easier: it is easy to fix if anything should be mistaken in terms of proper placement. If a single tile is off, then the entire countertop installation must start over once more, and that is very irritating to say the least. Judging from our experience, I would say for easy granite countertop installation, go with a slab countertop.

Portland area homes did not commonly have granite kitchen counter tops as recently as 10 years ago. I have witnessed firsthand a series of changes in kitchen design over the last 20-25 years that has included several broadly accepted themes. Early Portland homes had Tile counter tops.

Recently we installed a set of granite kitchen counter tops in a Portland area home for one of our customers.
The stone was a light cream color with a lot of variety & movement in it. Our policy on these type of colors is to bring the customer to our facility after we have made a template of the kitchen, so that we can do a “layout review” with them. This is intended to ensure several things.
