Whenever anyone does any type of home remodeling such as kitchen granite countertop installation, it is no surprise to see dangerous chemicals being used. I was very worried about this: I didn’t want to have my own health put at risk just for the sake of having a beautiful countertop. I did my research and was fortunate enough to find out that there some great companies that did not use any caustic chemicals that would be harmful to my home or my health. They instead would perform a much simpler process; all they would do is paste on a new countertop to my old counter. The result is a beautiful finish without the need of chemicals and it is very quick as well as efficient.

Concrete kitchen countertops first started making their way into residential homes about 25 years ago originating in Berkeley and San Francisco California. A few artisans started experimenting with concrete fabrication with unique results. They found that they could create any shape, color and style that could not be achieved with other materials.

One of the most important, not to mention the most highly practical features that a modern kitchen appliance should have these days is space – and a lot of it. With a wide range of appliances, cabinets, counters, and even islands or peninsulas, having ample space can be hard to come by, and thus is something that is highly desired in most homes. And let’s be honest with ourselves here: the refrigerator does not exactly help when it comes to taking up a small space. There can be no argument against the fact that a refrigerator and freezer are necessary to preserve meats, dairies, as well as various and sundry other perishable items. However, even the cabinet depth refrigerators are tremendously big and bulky. One of the most practical solutions to this problem is having one that is installed under the counter.

Granite is a beautiful natural very hard stone used for kitchen counter tops, monuments, sculptures, floor tiles and a granite tile counter as well as many other uses where stone is favored. The ancient Egyptians recognized the beauty of granite thousands of years ago and used it to make the pyramids of their pharaohs and other persons of status and means. They also used it in their homes as floor tiles. As an aside, we have heavy machinery today to cut the granite into squares and desired configurations. One wonders how the ancient Egyptians did it without today’s machinery.

As you may know from some of my recent posts, I recently got a new granite kitchen countertop done in my home. The installation of the countertop was unbelievably simple. While this was simple for me, my friend suffered: he did not go with a slab, but instead went with tiles for his countertop. He didn’t want to listen to me: if he had listened to me, his granite countertop installation would have been much quicker and much easier to do. Slab installation takes only a day: the granite tile takes much longer. One slab covers the entire area making it easier: it is easy to fix if anything should be mistaken in terms of proper placement. If a single tile is off, then the entire countertop installation must start over once more, and that is very irritating to say the least. Judging from our experience, I would say for easy granite countertop installation, go with a slab countertop.

Marble
Natural marble has unique and beautiful veins which make it very popular in home decor. Marble has a large selection of colors so it is easy to match with the surrounding environment. But if you look closer to the marble surface, you will find some tiny crackles which make marble products fragile after used for a period of time. Oil or dirt tend to penetrate the crackle easily which is very hard to get rid of and is a place to produce bacteria. So we suggest do not install marble in the acid and alkali environment like kitchen.
