How to Reduce Home Car Theft With Driveway Alarm Systems

A driveway alarm system may not prevent you from having your car or SUV stolen but it will greatly reduce the chances of this happening to you in the future. Auto thieves are getting bolder and more proficient at taking any vehicle they want these days and every tool available to you should be used to prevent this.

Driveway alarm systems range in sophistication from merely ringing an audible electronic chime when something or someone passes by the motion detector installed outside – to dialing your cell phone or home phone, turning on exterior lights, enabling an emergency strobe light (like an emergency vehicle’s light) rotating and throwing a blue, red or yellow light warning the intruder they have been noticed.

You can also choose systems that detect any movement be it car, person or animal – or you have a choice also of having a magnetic sensor that only detects automobiles, delivery trucks and motorcycles. I would prefer a motion sensor device to inform me of any traffic in my driveway.

Just in the state of Texas alone last year over 94,000 vehicles were stolen – Car theft is a multi-billion dollar market and it’s not about to stop any time soon – The police can only react to you calling them and the chances of a patrol car passing by your home while your car is being stolen is very unlikely.

I would prefer to have to have a driveway alarm that has multiple functions – that will let the myself and the would be thief know in seconds that their presence is know and unwanted and would give myself or a family member a heads up to call 911 while this bad act is happening.

Other benefits of driveway alarms are – to help prevent home invasions, and common home burglaries from even taking place, visible security for when you or family member drives up to your home in the dark and the motion sensors can activate lights so you can see if anyone is waiting to jump you as you get out of your vehicle when parking. Even the simplest things like knowing when the UPS driver, or the Dominos Pizza guy/gal has arrived to bring your dinner.

Some of the more advanced home security systems will allow you to install a driveway alert sensor and connect it to the main security system – ADT has such options available so you might want to check with their customer service department about this add on feature and see if your current home alarm is capable of this extra layer of security.
