Installing a Granite Countertop
Granite has been known for home use as far back as the ancient Egyptians who used granite tiles in their homes. They also used it to build the final resting places of their Pharaohs and people of means (the pyramids). These pyramids were sometimes built with red granite mixed with another color thus making the red appear pink. Installing granite countertop was not yet fashionable then.
Granite is not mined as other stone or gravel is mined, in quarries, but grows upward like a mountain. It is cut in slabs and in the final process is most often used as a slab. If you are planning on installing granite countertop in your kitchen or bathroom you will find that the cost of the actual granite is not all that high. However, add to that the price of delivering the granite to the job site and the installation and the price becomes quite costly. There are cheap ones available but the choice has to be yours as to the quality and appearance you are looking for. There are options.
Instead of the costly slab granite you can install granite countertop tiles. The tiles can be arranged in whatever pattern you would like. You may even want to install a small slab of it to act as a place to knead dough or whatever else would need to be done on that sort of surface. The concept is that of a butcher’s block but granite is not good to cut meat or anything else on. The granite tiles can be used as a countertop and also on the floor as a floor tile. Unfortunately, you do not save money by being a do-it-yourselfer since you still need to have the granite delivered and you will need help to lift and install the granite. The most prudent way to install granite countertop is to have the person you buy the granite from, deliver it and install it. Whichever granite you use, slab or tile, with proper care you will enjoy using it for many years to come.
