Mowing Your Lawn – This is Importance With Regard to Lawn Maintenance

Mowing is beneficial for the lawn as it helps in keeping the grass neat & in promoting compact growth. The grass should be sufficiently long so that its roots are fed. But it should also be short enough so that it can be managed easily. A family lawn that is meant for general use needs to be cut to reach a height of around 2.5cm. To give a finished look to the lawn where bowling can be practiced, the grasses need to be cut at a height of around ½ inch (1.2 cm).

Mowing should begin in March and by October it should be over. Frequent mowing leads to a slower growth of grass. This is so because each time the grass is cut, growth is restricted. Therefore, one should try to mow as little as possible limiting the frequency. This not only gives a much better finished look but is also more effective. It is perfect to mow the lawn two times in a week during summer. During autumn and spring, mowing once in the week is sufficient. For maintaining the evenness of a sward, the mowing direction should vary every now and then.

One should avoid mowing the back of the lawn too hard if the grass is being cut at an irregular period. This is because the grasses stop growing anymore and they also lose their vigor. In addition, this also leads to the invasion of moss and weeds. The best time for mowing is when the lawn is dry. During extremely hot months, the grass cuttings should be left on the surface. But while doing so make sure that there is no weed present on the turf.

The ideal length of the lawn is based on the grass type. However, many species of turf grass, remains most healthy when their height ranges between 1-1/2 inches. Readjustment of the mower is often necessary because most of them have a low setting. To keep the lawn healthy, frequent mowing should be done. The tenderness of the short clippings makes the grass rotten very quickly. The blade of the mower should be set at high speed. This helps the thicker lawns in shedding out their weeds. The pH range should be adjusted to 6.5-7.5. This pH range is preferred by majority of the grass species.

It is quite good if the clippings are left on your lawn. The only thing that you need to keep in mind here is that the grass is regularly mowed. During the first time while cutting the grass during spring or after a long time period, the lush growth and longer portions of the grass should be removed. After that, if the clippings remain at a height below 1/2in (2cm) & get scattered evenly, you can avoid cutting them. After removing the clippings from your lawn, place them on a heap of compost. – http://commerciallawncareequipment.com/lawncare-report.html
