Outdoor Dummy Security Camera is Smarter Than You Think

We normally wouldn’t associate the word dummy with the word smart but using an outdoor dummy security camera to protect the outside of your building, store or house can be a very smart choice. These highly effective yet very low cost phony cameras may not be able to catch a criminal but they have been effective at reducing crime just by their mere presence. To a burglar, for example, who doesn’t want to be recorded doing his evil deeds and won’t be able to tell the difference, the outdoor dummy security camera might as well be real.

A phony lens inside of a housing that is normally used for the real security cameras make the dummies look the same as the real thing. Add to that a short piece of camera cable that looks like it goes into the wall and you would be hard pressed to tell it apart from a real camera, some even have a flashing “recording” light. Outdoor dummy security cameras are even waterproof. Dummy cameras can be effective indoors as well and many retail stores rely solely on them as a crime deterrent while others use them to inexpensively enhance their existing real security system.

A good example is a Real Estate office that prefers to use an outdoor dummy security camera to protect vacant buildings that their office is handling. They are spared the time and expense of installing surveillance systems that will only be in place a short time and then moved. Tom Marco of Tom Marco Real Estate in Brooklyn, NY, a specialized Real Estate firm, said “These properties need security but the cost; not only of buying but of installing a surveillance system for such a short time is prohibitive. Now, not only do potential intruders think twice but my employees seem to be more conscientious at these sites.”

There are several different styles of dummy cameras you can use, depending on your tastes or needs. Some are the outdoor version. Some are the ever so popular security camera dome. Some have flashing “on” lights. One thing they all have in common though is that they actually deter criminals. Take into account that even a small surveillance system can cost several thousand dollars. Consider that with the ease of screwing in a few screws you can have a presence of security. Throw into the mix the factor that you don’t need, or need to hire, any technical knowhow or skilled labor. You don’t have to be a genius to realize that these dummies are pretty smart after all.
