For you to be able to effectively prevent such infestation, then you need to learn the basics of controlling the infestation of termites using the do it yourself approach.
First and foremost, when you are planning of controlling the termites all by yourself, you need to plan it out carefully and cautiously. Normally, a lot of homeowners who would like to save from the expenses would control the infestation of termites all by themselves. There may be other people who have done the do it yourself approach successfully, but you should still be cautious enough because there are also disadvantages accompanied by this method.
Before you choose the control method that you will do, you have to assess the property damage caused by the termites. If it is already severe, then it would need the help of an expert in termite extermination. On the other hand, if the damage is not that severe, then a do it yourself approach would be enough. Once you have determined the damage, the next thing that you have to do is to choose a method that will work best.
You can choose termite baiting, but usually, professional termite exterminators also commonly use this kind of method. Baiting is usually preferred by a lot of homeowners because this method doesn’t require use of a lot of harmful chemicals. However, the downside is that the procedure may take some time and it is not guaranteed that there will be complete termite extermination if the procedure is used alone.
If you are going to do the baiting all by yourself as your termite control measure, then you need to do some personal inspections on your property as well as the surroundings. Be sure to check the areas where there are wood and moisture because these areas are conducive for termites. You will be using treated wood as baits for the termites and you will place these baits in strategic locations for the worker termites to ingest and would be passed on to other members of the colony.
Another method is through chemical treatment. Of course, it would still be necessary to access the termite damage on your house first before you start the treatment. However, unlike the baiting method, chemical treatment is a little difficult to do by yourself. Once you have the products needed for the extermination, you need to carefully follow the instructions written in order to prevent any problems.
