Tips in Preventing Ants From Invading Your Home
Although ants are small insects, they can be bothersome at your home. Ants come in colonies and work together in finding food for their colony. Usually, ants have a lifespan of 40-60 days but the queen ant and the worker ants have a longer lifespan.
In general, ants are one of those insects that live in colonies. Ants are considered similar to termites because of that, although the former insects do not cause destructions unlike the latter. In an ant colony, there are social classes. A colony usually consists of a queen, males, females, and the lowest class, which are the workers. A colony consist of millions of members and when there are already a lot of members, the winged males and females will move out of the colony to form their own new colony and the female will become the queen to lay more eggs. Once the queen has already established a colony, its wings will also shed off, similar to that of a queen termite.
Actually, there are different types of these insects. However, preventing these small insects from invading your home is almost the same for all types.
Generally speaking, ants are working through its sense of smell. The sense of smell of these insects is strong; thus, if you want to prevent these ants from entering your kitchen or your house, then you need to make sure that ants won’t be able to smell anything that can attract them.
You need to sweep and wipe your floor as often as possible. Apparently, even a small crumb of bread can already attract an ant and an entire colony. In addition, you should also place your condiments such as coffee, sugar, etc. to an air tight container.
If you are fond of leaving foods on the counter, then it is not time to stop that habit of yours, unless you want these tiny insects to invade your house. Make sure that you wash everything and don’t leave anything on your sink because if you do, you will just attract more ants.
Aside from these tips, there are also other methods to prevent these tiny insects from entering your precious home. It is definitely not a pleasing sight to see flying ants on your food.
