Winning Tactics For Saving Money on Decor

Getting spectacular deals on furniture and accessories on the internet for pennies on the dollar is the biggest trend going on now in the interior design world. I get so excited about finding furniture and accessories on the internet that have great style and don’t hurt my pocketbook that I wanted to share them with you!

One of my favorite sites is Craigslist. You can search for anything and everything on this site. It is an online network of communities with more than 450 cities listed nationally. Think of it as the virtual yard sale. For you and I , this site is decoration and design budget gold!

Unlike eBay, you don’t have to worry about fees for shipping, because these are communities local to you! I found a wonderful Mid-Century dining room table and chairs that seats 8! I got a sweet deal on it. It is a beautiful piece of furniture and well made. I paid 30% for it compared to what I may have paid retail.

Remember not to be shy about bargaining on this site with the sellers. Some sellers really do want to get rid of their stuff ASAP. If it is a good deal, don’t waste your or the seller’s time by trying to get the price lower. Also, check out the free listings, too. Sometimes people put wonderful items there.

Here’s another thing to do when searching on Cragislist… search on the internet for a “craigslist search engine”. This will cut down time and will allow you to search more than one locality you are willing to drive to.

Once you find the item you want, you arrange pick-up and voila! You have a new item for your home at a fraction of the cost, if you are a savvy buyer. Especially in these tough economic times, some people need to move fast and their loss is your gain. On that note, remember to check Craigslist towards the end of the month as moving day will be coming!

Another site you might to check out is Etsy. This site is so great! You will find all sorts of things you wouldn’t imagine. You can find some furniture on this site, but I like to browse this site for accessories. The site is set up where you can find handmade or vintage items. Each seller sets up a store and has their shipping costs listed, which usually are fair. This is the place to find things that none of your friends will have! Just the way to be original and put your stamp on your décor!

Lastly, don’t forget to check out estate sales. There is a great site to search for estate sales in your area called Estate Sales. I have been to a few estate sales, and the things you find there are unbelievable. Make sure to get there early. You may have to take a number or wait in line.

Have room in your car to take the stuff home. Sometimes it is advisable to bring your own boxes or bags to haul all your loot home! When you walk around and see some item you like, pick it up (and take it to the seller, if the sale is run that way), otherwise it will be taken by someone else. Look all over, I do mean everywhere. Something could be on the floor, sitting on top of a book shelf or the seller may be sitting on some bench that is fabulous.

Don’t forget, sometimes you can even get a deal in a regular brick and mortar store. If an item is damaged or missing something, ask an associate if you can get a discount on the item! More often than not, you can! You can also look for coupon codes online to stores to get deals on free shipping or discounts on your purchases.

In these tough economic times, remember, a bargain is to be had everywhere!
