For a start wooden worktops generally are made from several large pieces of wood which are then carefully crafted and joined to make a solid and secure work surface. These wooden worktops and then treated to prevent damage occurring to them when they are used. However, one benefit that wooden worktops have over a normal marble or granite work surface is that if it needs to be you can retreat the wood at any given time.

If you damage wooden worktops then you could always sand it down with a detail sander and retreat the wood to seal it again. If you damage a marble or granite surface then you are generally stuck with that defect for the duration of the worktop.
